Approaching the land banks of the orchard to all Murcia is the purpose of the new campaign launched by the City of Murcia to manage and recover the abandoned land of this natural environment, thus avoiding its decline and abandonment.
The initiative is part of the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, directed by Antonio Navarro Corchón, and has the collaboration of the Employment, through the Center for Municipal Initiatives (CIM) and Trade and is based on the Connection between owners of disused farmland and people interested in leasing them for cultivation, in a socially and environmentally sustainable model.
From next Monday and for two weeks - until the 28th, the markets of different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality, especially those that are close to the areas of Huerta and its surroundings, such as El Esparragal, Llano de Brujas , Javalí Nuevo, Puebla de Soto, Los Garres and La Ñora, among others, will be the scene of this campaign, which will start in the squares of Santo Domingo and Glorieta.
In the organization and development of this itinerary, the Department of Commerce, led by Maruja Pelegrín, collaborates in the same way as the Department of Employment, the Department headed by Jesús Pacheco, will be in charge of managing the land banks within its program aimed at Entrepreneurs, linked with the association of ecological producers.
In a complementary way, the Council intends to hold meetings with the presidents of municipal councils - the first will take place next week - to explain the plan and collect suggestions.
Collaboration agreements will also be signed with the Colleges of Agricultural Engineers and Agricultural Technical Engineers to conduct courses and training activities and receive advice, in addition to having the participation of the Board of Farmers and the Association ASAJA.
Navarro Corchón explained that the Land Bank of Murcia "is a management system that is part of the Plan of Action of the Orchard of Murcia and whose purpose is to prevent the abandonment of cultivated land, favoring socio-economic development De la Huerta through a socially and environmentally sustainable model ".
It is an initiative that will allow the recovery of unproductive land in the Huerta and put it into production, increasing the agricultural activity of the area and promoting the creation of auxiliary activities, thus enhancing a productive and profitable garden.
Distribution, tasting and promotion of products
The Councilor for Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, explained in the presentation of the campaign the intention of the City Council to "promote the use of organic, quality and traditional crops, while providing a means of decent employment for sectors with Difficulties for access to work, especially young people, the unemployed and over 50, etc. "
