Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sánchez, recalled that "the City Council complies with the provisions of the Law on Traffic, Motor Vehicle Circulation and Road Safety, which states that bicycles must travel on the roadway and not on pedestrian zone".
The measure of sanctioning cyclists "has been requested by many neighbors who told us that some cyclists are recklessly driving on the sidewalks. In fact, there are many pedestrians and cyclists who circulate correctly, who applaud this measure" , Said Sanchez.
The mayor has insisted that "before sanctioning we have carried out an information campaign to remember which are the norms that affect the cyclists".
The councilor explained to the Municipal Socialist Group that "we are already working on the creation of the 20 kilometers of bike lanes covered by our plan, but the lack of this infrastructure is no excuse to breach existing state regulations and circulate in pedestrian zones ".
