The PSOE requires more staff, funding and infrastructure so that the City of Murcia can comply with the Basic Income Law (08/11/2016)

The Socialists regret that the regional government has taken more than nine years to take the steps to implement this Law and criticizes that, after almost a decade of failure, it has not been taken into account if the municipalities have the means and resources sufficient

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group, Susana Hernández, criticized Tuesday that "after more than nine years of passing and disinterest, the regional government of the PP, pressured by the opposition in the Regional Assembly, intends to implement the Law of Basic Income of Insertion (whose regulation had to have been approved in 2007) without counting the municipalities, that are the administrations that must process and to follow up the files ".

Hernández has recalled that the Socialist Party has insistently demanded during the last nine years the implementation of this Law, "but for it to be applied correctly it must be taken into account if the municipalities have the means and resources sufficient to give fulfillment".

In this sense, the Socialist mayor has indicated that "in the case of the City of Murcia, there are not enough staff in Social Services to deal with the work that will entail compliance with the Basic Insertion Income Act. To assume the responsibilities they currently have due to the lack of staff and space available. "

"Even the Economic and Social Council of the Region of Murcia is perplexed by the lack of provision of funding and human resources existing in the mandatory report to the regulations of the Law, presented by the regional government," said the Socialist mayor.

The mayor added that "so that the Social Services of the City of Murcia can start the files of application for Basic Income, comply within a period of two months and follow up, as provided by the Law, it is necessary more Budget, more personnel and infrastructures that guarantee a correct application, otherwise social workers may be forced to leave other services aside to be able to meet deadlines due to the overload of work.

"The City of Murcia should not take care of the funding that requires the implementation of the Law, but it is important that we have sufficient resources to, once and for all, these grants reach the thousands of neighbors Of the municipality that continue to experience difficulties, and which has not been taken into account while deliberately delaying the approval of the corresponding regulation for almost a decade, "the mayor has criticized.

Susana Hernández has spoken to the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, to urge him to "demand his colleagues from the PP in the regional government to provide the City of Murcia with sufficient human and economic resources to give effect to this Law" and "to seek Allies who join this requirement in the Federation of Municipalities. "

"What concerns us is the good development of a much needed Law and that our city council has all the resources to comply with it. If Ballesta cares about the Murcia and Murcia will also denounce this lack of planning that can put at risk the application of Law of Basic Income of Insertion in the municipality ", has concluded.
