The City Council has reached an agreement with Adif for the transfer of free use of the 8 kilometers of rail corridor, which was dismantled eight years ago.
Almost 200,000 square meters will be transformed into a leisure and recreation, continuing actions for the recovery of spaces for public use.
The old railway corridor that runs between the districts of Los Dolores, San Jose de la Vega, Beniaján, Torreagüera, Los Ramos, Stables and Zeneta along eight more kilometers will be transformed into a green, cycle path and pedestrian path.
The change will be possible thanks to the agreement between the City and the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif), which owns the 200,000 square meters that make up the railway trace, which ceased to be used for 8 years.
The Governing Board today approved the transfer of free use of the old railway as an essential first step to carry out the remodeling of the environment, to become a new area for leisure and recreation of residents.
Thus, the City takes another step in recovery projects spaces for public use.
It responds well to an insistent demand of the inhabitants of these districts, where trains stopped running in 2008 when it launched the diversion of Reguerón by convoys to Alicante and Cartagena are directed.
The step taken is directed to comply "one of the major objectives of the government team, as is the recovery of public spaces for use by pedestrians," said the Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, who stressed which thus it allows to close the gash south. "
Once the assignment which authorizes the council to act on the land, "the next step will be to draft the projects and implement relevant actions, opening a participatory process with the districts," said Navarro, who said it will be "one of strategic projects ".
Eight years into disuse
Since then, the railway corridor remained unused and both residents of the towns and the presidents of the municipal boards had requested several times a performance that would make up that space for walking, sport or simply as a way to circulate bike safely and in an enclave of environmental interest.
Once signed the transfer agreement, the City will prepare the appropriate projects for the conditioning of spaces for the intended use.
The work, which responds to an agreement urging Plenum get that assignment, means that from now the City Council will meet the costs of maintaining that until now was to deal Adif.
