The next Friday, October 28, the city of Murcia joins the world's largest event on Climate Change, the Climathon, which participate simultaneously about 60 cities in 36 countries, including Sydney, Washington and Hong Kong.
The initiative has been promoted by Climate-KIC, European initiative to combat climate change that promotes public-private partnership to respond to the challenge of building an economy without carbon.
Murcia participates for the first time in Spain, along with the cities of Castellon and Valencia, this annual event for debate on local initiatives against global warming.
It's no wonder that the Mediterranean area, especially affected by the consequences of climate change, is the most active and concerned about its effects.
The Climathon to take place in the unique space of Molinos del Rio, uninterrupted day of 9 to 20 hours, coordinated through ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change city of Murcia.
Climathon workshops taking place until 18.00 hours, singularly directed to college students and recent Masters courses, and on the advice of professionals and supported by a group of experts on the topics.
Participation in them is limited to 30 people, so it is necessary to pre-register online.
However, the Department of Planning, Environment and Huerta, who heads Antonio Navarro, wanted to invite to contribute to the Climathon to all citizens, so from 17 hours to completion at 20 hours, the Murcia can identify the main vulnerabilities of the municipality of Murcia to climate change and contribute their own ideas to improve their adaptation.
It also encourages participation through social networks, through Twitter, where contributions can be made by sending tweets with the hashtag #Climathon.

Each participating city has chosen its own local climate challenge.
On this occasion, Murcia has invited participants to seek solutions to the problems of water shortages, improve urban planning and integration of the garden of Murcia.
The Councillor for Environment, Antonio Navarro has indicated that "the City Council of Murcia want participants to help us find solutions and identify adaptation measures in the most vulnerable sectors of our community," so that "the best contributions and proposed ideas form part of the Plan of Adaptation to Climate Change in the Municipality of Murcia, on which already working in its many phases since 2015 ".
