The European Project 'ESTPORT' to move the model of mentoring athletes UCAM other European universities today held its fourth workshop has discussed the use of new technologies as support for sports tutors when working with athletes elite in their training.
In this workshop participated teachers and tutors but have also taken the word the athletes themselves: Miguel Angel Lopez and Vicente Guardiola (athletics), Joel González (taekwondo), Juan Francisco Gongora (soccer), Julia Melina (basketball) and Andreu Blanes ( orientation).
Antonio Sánchez Pato, dean of the Faculty of Sport, has offered an interesting development since has joined this project a new university that expands the number of countries involved: "This workshop is focused on the figure of sports tutor UCAM we are exporting to Greece, Italy, UK and Malta. Now the Olympic Committee of Portugal to include in this project at the University of Oporto. the issue today are the new technologies as support for training athletes through degrees and másteres distance. "
Pablo Rosillo, CEO of Sports of the Catholic University, recalled that this model of the UCAM has a history and an evolution of almost two decades: "For 19 years with Juanma Molina began with the model to adapt academic training sports career. Since then, it has been the Sports Service which centralizes management of license plates athletes. with us was born this model and academics which develops all training our athletes and make it known to others European universities ".
Meanwhile, Pablo Blesa, vice-rector of International Relations and Communication has highlighted the great popularity that is acquiring the UCAM worldwide thanks to this commitment when supporting top athletes to study: "It is a European major project in the internationalization of the University. the UCAM has become a model in the difficult job of reconciling the professional life of an elite athlete with the academic life of a student. "
