Cristina Roda Alcantud, professor in the Department of Modern, Contemporary and American History of the Faculty of Arts, has been awarded the Gold Shield of the National Union of Writers of Spain.

Today the National Union of Writers of Spain is the association of writers most representative of our country, with members both in Spain and in several foreign countries.
The association aims to defend freedom of expression and literary creation, as well as defending the right of the spoken or written word writers
Cristina Roda Alcantud, will receive the award for his contribution to the knowledge of the history of the region and especially in the city of Cartagena, which has focused its extensive research activity.
He is a member of the Chair of Naval History composed of the University of Murcia and the Ministry of Defence, and has held various management positions university, including the coordinator of Lorca Associate Extension Center of Cartagena UNED.
Roda Alcantud will become the first woman to receive this honorary distinction of the Union of Writers and the second university, after 2015 it obtained the professor at the UMU and journalist Juan Tomás Frutos.
The gold shield has also been granted so far the philologist and writer Juan Emilio Rios (Algeciras, 2013) and the poet and professor Fernando Sanchez Mayo (Cordoba, 2014).
