The UMU makes science fun and accessible Researchers' Night (29/09/2016)

The University of Murcia (UMU) held on Friday, September 30, in the artillery barracks of the regional capital, a new edition of the Researchers' Night, an event that, at European level, aims to promote scientific vocations among younger.

From 18:00 until 22:00, those who come to the facilities of Barrio del Carmen will enjoy the many activities that the UMU and researchers have been prepared on the most varied subjects: psychology, biology, biotechnology, food science and technology, agricultural sciences, criminology, physics, history, engineering, navigation, neuroscience, medicine, chemistry and psychology;

all to show science in a fun and accessible way.

Under the slogan "Having fun with science", the edition this year will pay special attention to the elderly, for those who have organized various workshops, such as postural hygiene or cardiovascular risk, through which will be offered advice and guidelines for a healthy life.

Also, many of the activities will be related to legumes and camels, which will have a starring role, given that 2016 has been proclaimed by the UN as the International Year of these materials.

Attendees at Night know, among other things, how to help to born healthier specimens babies, how to find out what kind of sperm before us, learn about the internet of things or how we will be when we get old, discover for what good sailors knots, see also replicas of submarines and galleys, investigate the mesopotánica writing, listening to stories of old, get fingerprints or make fluber.

Also, will enter holography, riding in a car that runs on solar power, analyze the origins of crime and characteristics of serial murderers, investigate how our senses can deceive, extract DNA, experimenting with transgenic plants, recognize the importance of the soil and examine basic aspects of food.

And like every year, it will be open free of charge both the Aquarium and the Museum of the University of Murcia, where the Games will be exposed and Middle Ages shows.

All accompanied by performances by University Chamber Orchestra, which will perform at the opening ceremony, and the Broadway Musical Theater Association, whose members dance and act at different times of the night.

There will also be a representation of a scientific monologue by comedian and mathematician Santi Garcia, a member of the group "Big Van, scientists on wheels" and contributor to BBC2 program "Orbit Laika".

In addition, there will be the presence of Onda Regional radio station, which will move to the artillery barracks to record the "Kitaro: life is science" program, to be broadcast the next day, at 10:05 hours in the morning, in the dial 105.3.

This event is organized by the Unit for Scientific Culture and Promotion of the Research Office of Research of the University of Murcia and has funding from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
