The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councillor for Education, University Relations and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, inaugurated the new Municipal Library Espinardo today, located in the JC1 sports complex, with two floors and an area of ​​more than 600 square meter.
The new facility is three times larger than the previous ones, occupying a total of 676 square meters compared to 273 meters above when this municipal service was located in the same premises as the Cultural and Social Center Espinardo.
"After sharing space for 25 years, the new library Espinardo tripling its surface and doubling its opening hours to the public, increasing from 24 hours per week to 55," said the mayor, adding that "the new center has a total of 14,500 copies for reading and borrowing ".
The new library occupies the first and second floor of the interior building with access from the street Monsignor Jose Manuel Lorca Planes.
On the first floor the children's section for children up to 13 years, and loan information service, management and technical processing department is located.
In addition to basic services, this space will host occasional children's shows, with dramatic readings of stories to introduce children in reading.
Meanwhile, on the second floor it has enabled the youth section (from 14 years) and adults, in addition to the information service and loan.
The works have involved an investment of 50,000 euros.
In addition, the City Council held this year an investment of 5,000 euros for the acquisition of additional copies and new funds, improving and extending reading services and public information to 11,500 inhabitants of Espinardo.
The morning hours to the public Monday through Saturday from 9.00 to 14.00 and afternoons, Monday to Friday, from 16.00 to 21.00.
An extensive Municipal Library Network
The Municipal Library Network has a total of 18 service points located in the districts of Cabezo de Torres, El Palmar, La Alberca, Bacons Bridge, Beniaján, El Puntal, El Raal, Guadalupe, Javalí Nuevo, La Ă‘ora and Sangonera la green, as well as in the districts of Espinardo, Fame, San Basilio, Santiago El Mayor, two centers in the barrio del Carmen and bibliomercado Saavedra Fajardo.
Moreover, in times of university exams they are enabled study rooms in many of these centers during Saturdays and Sundays, by providing students study 550 posts on weekends.
