The Committee for the Support of Sex Workers (CATS) will continue to receive the help and support of the City of Murcia, through the Department of Health and Sports, headed by Felipe Coello.
Thus, this association nonprofit that defends the rights of these people and it serves free to sex workers who carry out their work on streets, roads, clubs, apartments and autonomously, will receive a grant of 50,000 euros, according the agreement reached by the Governing Board of the City of Murcia.
The objectives of this association are, among others, fight for the recognition of the rights of those engaged in sex work;
meet their health and social demands, fight stigma;
create employment for those who want change activity alternatives;
improve conditions for those who want to stay;
combat exploitation and forced prostitution;
create a space for reflection on prostitution in which the voice of their people is heard;
and spread the reality of sex work in different social areas such as university, media, trade associations or neighborhood associations.
The City Council has been working since 2005 with this partnership, which provides a grant of 50,000 euros to support their social activities.
CATS comes weekly to places of prostitution both street and club to inform, support and publicize the services of the association and offers telephone service.
It also carries out advocacy work for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections aimed at customers and potential customers.
