HUERMUR complaint to the council by the poor state of the artillery barracks (19/09/2016)

HUERMUR has denounced the Ministry of Culture the poor state of emblematic Artillery Barracks Murcia, an architectural ensemble of the early twentieth century, only in the municipality and protected in the General Plan of Murcia.

HUERMUR claims that this protected historic site is deteriorating to the appalling inaction of municipal officials and the Ministry of Culture.

The Association for the Conservation of Huerta and Heritage Murcia (HUERMUR), within the activities of the 'PatrimurSOS Plan' has denounced the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community of Murcia the poor state of the artillery barracks and special pavilions ONE and TWO, owned by the City of Murcia.

A terrible condition that can be seen in numerous cracks in the facades, cornices detachment, plaster and moldings, as well as numerous flaws and anchored to protected facades elements.

a few days, members of the HUERMUR association appeared at the complex Artillery Barracks Murcia to check "in situ" the current state of this fine historic landmark of the city of Murcia, crediting by numerous graphic and visual material a worrying ago and alarming state of conservation of the whole, and especially of municipal halls one and two, which suffer numerous landslides and damaged balconies, moldings and facades.

Once a conclusion drawn by the material collected, the data have been transferred to the legal services of the organization, who have decided to develop and present a strong complaint with the Directorate General for Cultural Property.

To HUERMUR the current condition with the artillery barracks, it can be a breach of Law 4/2007 of 16 March, the Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia by the municipality, owner of the well, obviating be the duty of conservation, custody and protection of cultural heritage to which it is bound by the law, because remember from HUERMUR the architectural ensemble of Artillery Barracks has been classified and protected Grade 2 in the General Plan of Murcia.

Similarly they note that these pavilions are with most of their windows open, facilitating the degradation of properties by inclement weather, and numerous birds and animals from nesting inside the pavilions, causing an embarrassing and damaging situation for this set protected.

Another element found in a fairly degraded and alarming state is the former headquarters deposit height, a structure of more than 25 meters high and symbol of this protected architectural ensemble.

From the conservationist association urge the Consistory Murcia and their leaders, as well as the Ministry of Culture, to be involved effectively in the conservation and protection of Artillery Barracks, unique in the city of Murcia and a landmark whole city where numerous acts and events are held, all in order to ensure compliance with the law and protecting the heritage of Murcia.

Also the President of HUERMUR, Sergio Pacheco, indicates that: "the City as owner Artillery Barracks, must keep decent and consistent with the legal conditions this cultural property of the city of Murcia", also notes that "this is another complaint highlights the state blush heritage of the municipality, which has pushed him to limit state by the disastrous policies of the council, which has been oblivious to the conservation of heritage and history of Murcia for years " .

Finally, from the Association HUERMUR they want to point out that government should be the first to set an example and preserve the heritage of all Murcia, to prevent waste any more goods in the history of Murcia.
