On the occasion of the celebration of International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, the city of Murcia has filed the largest global event related to climate change 'Climathon 2016', reaching the municipality of Murcia to treat the three sectors most vulnerable in our town, in the short, medium and long term, such as urban planning, water scarcity and orchard.
This is a European initiative to combat climate change that promotes public-private partnership to respond to the challenge of building an economy without carbon, to be held on October 28 in Los Molinos del Rio uninterrupted time 09:00 20:00 hours, coordinated through ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change city of Murcia.
Through an introduction on sectoral consequences of climate change, we will work with attendees to design adaptation measures that make the most resilient city.
The event is primarily aimed at college students last courses, masters and new entrepreneurs, who will have the support of a group of experts on the topics.
From 1700 the Climathon the citizen, where you can learn more in depth the vulnerabilities of the municipality of Murcia, take note of the conclusions of the event and even participate with their own contributions will open.
It is celebrated on the same day throughout the world and each of the cities participating in the event proposes its own local climate challenge, where participants can go with a preset idea or work together to develop during that day.
The City Council joins this initiative through the Department of Planning, Environment and Huerta, who heads Antonio Navarro Corchón.
The Councillor for Environment, Antonio Navarro has indicated that "the City Council of Murcia want participants to help us find solutions and identify adaptation measures in the most vulnerable sectors of our municipality", in this way, "the best contributions and proposed ideas form part of the Plan of Adaptation to Climate Change in the Municipality of Murcia, on which already working in its many phases since 2015 ".
Climate change is the greatest challenge facing humanity and the planet now faces, and is in our hands to cope through mitigation and adaptation.
The adaptation is responding to climate impacts that are already occurring and will occur due to the historical accumulation of GHG (greenhouse gases) in the atmosphere.
In cities adaptation tries to moderate or prevent damage that can occur with high probability and exploit beneficial opportunities.
'Climathon 2016' becomes an opportunity to bring together the main challenges of cities with citizens who have the passion and ability to solve them, becoming a showcase of cities to show practical solutions in the fight against climate change.
