URBELAC is an initiative promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Directorate General for Regional Policy and Urban of the European Commission with the aim of promoting sustainable development in the cities of the two regions - Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Network seeks to improve the quality of life of these cities promoting sustainable and integrated urban development, by identifying innovative policies and programs.

The idea goes two ways: firstly, URBELAC seeks to facilitate the exchange of information, best practices and lessons learned on sustainable and integrated urban practices and policies, contributing to a learning process based on concrete examples and best practices.

Moreover, the network-program aims to support cities in identifying concrete and immediate actions that have an impact on local sustainable urban development and associated policies.

The second transnational meeting will be held in Buenos Aires in late 2016.
