Within a savings policy and budget reduction of maintenance costs and a clear commitment to free software, the University of Murcia (UMU) has achieved significant cost savings with the migration of corporate telephony system, initiated in January past.
The UMU, so far, has migrated 49 percent of the 5,000 landlines and wifi available and is expected to complete the migration in November.
This migration represents a savings of close to 300,000 euros on software licenses and annual savings of 70,000 euros in maintenance and licensing.
In addition, this action is another step in making based on free software by the UMU IT solutions, as are the use of Linux desktops and many other tools on which services and applications are supported.
This project has been approved by the Strategy Committee of Information Technology.
