The Summer Science Campus, which has reached its seventh edition, have gathered this year at the University of Murcia (UMU) to a total of 120 young people from fourth ESO and eleventh grade were selected for their academic records.
These students came from all over Spain, have thus been able to participate in the four draft scientific acercameinto offered by the Campus of Excellence Mare Nostrum.
The technical director of the project, Rosa Maria Ros, said to make an assessment of this issue that "it is very gratifying experience of these campuses, especially in the last year, in which we made a special adaptation of the contents of projects age and educational level of the participants. "
He also noted that students have had the opportunity to participate in experimental practices that can not be carried out in their schools and in those who have had the opportunity to develop their individual creativity.
The objective of this activity is to promote scientific vocations among young people, these Campus allow them to be accompanied by scientific animators with university degrees and experience in these tasks.
The four draft scientific approach of the UMU are: "Applied Biotechnology", "H2O: a special molecule", "Researching Physics in an everyday environment" and "Scientific solving crimes: the importance of forensic science" .
According to the Vice Chancellor for Coordination and internationalization of the UMU, Professor Bernardo Cascales, the important thing about this offer it is that young people interested in science and technology can participate for a week on a special project designed for them by professors from the University of Murcia and Secondary Education.
Participants have been required an average score equal to or greater than 8 and have been born after December 31, 1998.
The program of the Summer Science Campus is an initiative of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, sponsored by the Social Work "The Caixa".
