The project carried out by the Department of Traffic and Safety, headed Lola Sanchez, has involved the installation of traffic lights at three intersections lacking them, as well as reducing traffic lanes from two to one, allowing
- Reduce the width of road crossing by pedestrians, generating greater safety at crossings.
- Extend the surface of sidewalks, especially at intersections of lower visibility, which also results in safety crossings.
- Build 40 new parking spaces.
Stoplight installations performances have included the installation of different types of traffic lights, columns and supports that increase the flow of traffic and avoid unnecessary delays.
These elements include acoustic signals and vandal buttons to demand crosswalk.
Thereby minimizing the retention time of the traffic, since the crosswalks are made on demand, according to the needs of pedestrians.
In addition, traffic lights incorporate a sound system via Bluetooth enabled mobile or remote control to ensure universal access for fully compliant mode.
Thus, anyone with reduced visual perception can activate the sound bells only with the presence in the crosswalk of a mobile device (or remote), so that the crossing is guaranteed safely with minimal condition to neighbors noises.
The project has respected the two exit lanes on certain sections of the street for reasons of fluidity, and incorporation into the Walk of Fame or to the Avenida Primero de Mayo.
Regarding sidewalks, they paved remodeled sections have been following the instructions of the recommendations and guidelines of universal accessibility, with the corresponding recesses at the level of road and tactile location and direction of crosswalks bands.
The works, which involves an investment of 123,000 euros, have been executed by Construction Technology and Public Works SA, in three months, without affecting the market Fame, thanks to the organization of work in weekly stages, leaving the construction area every Wednesday afternoon and full Thursdays.
