From CEAFA (Spanish Confederation of Associations of Families and People with Alzheimer's and other dementias) has launched the campaign "Cities of Solidarity with Alzheimer's, in order to sensitize, inform and engage citizens and institutions with problem suffered by more than 800,000 people throughout Spain and affecting 3.5 million people between sufferers and their family caregivers.
Specifically, in our city partnership Afamur (Association of relatives of Alzheimer patients in the Region of Murcia), it has proposed to the City Council the inclusion in this initiative because of the need to promote actions and measures to improve the quality of life of people affected by Alzheimer's disease, since this health problem is now the leading cause of dementia in developed countries, as well as one of the leading causes of death among adults.
There are already more than 180 cities across Spain who have joined this initiative, stating that Alzheimer's affects in Spain to 3.5 million people between sufferers and their caregivers and the costs generated among families exceeds 30,000 euros.
