Terra Natura Murcia host during the months of July and August rehabilitation therapies with horses and dogs as well as activities with sea lions, lemurs, birds of prey and giraffes
The comprehensive rehabilitation center centaur Chiron will develop this summer in the region of Murcia the first school of zooterapia multispecies of Spain, aimed at children and youth with disabilities.
People with spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, autism and attention deficit disorder and syndromes and rare diseases may benefit from this type of rehabilitation.
The Terra Natura Murcia theme park will host during the months of July and August, Monday to Friday from 9-18 hours, the first 'Summer School Accessibility', where they will carry out assisted therapy animals from an innovative approach , recreational, sports and education.
The activities will be held in a natural, supportive environment to promote values ​​such as respect, conservation or knowledge of the nature of the hand of sea lions, horses, dogs, lemurs, giraffes, deer or birds of prey.
Students will be accompanied by specialized therapists, in a ratio of two users per therapist.
The manager of Centaur Chiron, Pedro Ferrer, explained that "Natura Terra is the ideal place to develop this type of activity scenario, not only for being a natural and highly enriching, but because it is also fully adapted to the needs of our kids."
"For our part, Centaur Chiron brings experienced in working with people with functional diversity professionals," he said.
"As an alternative to conventional approaches, our school aims to stimulate personal, social, physical and cognitive development through animal-assisted therapy," he said.
"The therapies are based on the use of the various resources that make our animals as co-workers, the horse's movements, for example, provide a great neuromuscular and vestibular stimulation, improving tone, balance and proprioception of the body," explained Ferrer .
Also, "it is inevitable and equally motivating emotional and responsibility to establish links with these small and great companions, to collaborating in activities that seek them with the care and needs of their daily lives," he said.
This summer about 150 users aged between 5 and 30 years may benefit from this therapy.
This is a summer school also created to facilitate family reconciliation in full summer season.
In this sense, users with mental and physical disabilities may benefit from group work for the empowerment of their personal, social and communication skills, in ways that enhance their ability to integrate and adapt to the demands of society.
Recently, the company created the centaur Chiron Foundation, whose main objective is to award scholarships to people who do not have resources to access this type of rehabilitation.
This organization also fights for the rights of animals, performing rescue, recovery and sponsorship of horses and other animal types in disadvantaged situations and investment in R + D + i.
In this sense, Ferrer "encouraged" companies and murcianas entities to "include this project in its allocations to corporate social responsibility and we give the possibility to award scholarships to young people across Spain to enjoy this summer school, whose weekly cost is 450 euros per user. "
