The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Pedro Rivera, and the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today signed an agreement to improve public passenger transport in the municipality of Murcia and facilitate the mobility of users between the city and its districts.
Pedro Rivera said that this agreement "allows to adapt the supply of public transport to the real needs of citizens, making the transportation network more efficient, as well as opening new opportunities to increase the supply of the service, with more frequencies, thus shortening wait and modifying itineraries ".
He also stressed that "the improvement and optimization of public transport is a priority for the Regional Government," and the proof is the Director of Transport of the Region Plan, whose tender is currently underway.
This is an "instrument that will set the framework for development of public transport throughout the region and mechanisms of interaction between it and the communication systems of other provincial areas."
The counselor described as "necessary" this agreement with the City since the first performance boost that will improve frequencies and routes of the lines that connect the villages of the South Coast.
Heeding a request from the neighbors, it acts first on lines 78, which connects the districts of the South Coast, from El Secano Beniaján to El Palmar with the hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, and the 30, which links Zeneta with Murcia.
A monitoring committee will analyze the needs that arise in the field of transport in the city and be involved directly in the planning of measures to improve the service currently includes more than 80 bus lines and serves more than 10 million travelers per year.
This body, composed of two members representing the Ministry of Public Works and two of Murcia consistory, will maintain its first meeting over the coming days to begin work immediately.
