The University of Murcia (UMU) and the city of Cartagena have signed an agreement by which the educational institution will provide knowledge and human resources to this municipality.
The initiator of the agreement by the UMU, Secretary General, Santiago Alvarez, pointed out during the signing ceremony that the agreement establishes the framework for future action lines.
Among the actions to be undertaken, he cited in training activities, transfer of research results and improving employability.
The agreement was signed by the rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, and the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, who highlighted how important it is for municipalities to have the "know how" of universities.
The mayor, who mentioned examples of city projects such as rehabilitation of the historic center, where teachers collaborate University of Murcia, has been worth the synergy of this cooperation between administrations.
For its part, the rector, José Orihuela, stressed the need for the University to interact with their environment to contribute to the sustainable development of the municipalities in the region.
The agreement, which takes up one of 1983 that never materialized, was signed in the building of convalescence, home of the Rector of the University of Murcia.
