The Municipal People's Party presented a motion to support the fight against trafficking and sexual exploitation (29/06/2016)

The councilman of Social Rights will present to the House an initiative to raise awareness and promote the necessary legal amendments to criminalize the purchase or trafficking in women for sexual commerce and those forced to prostitution

All countries should join efforts to combat trafficking.

This is the message that the councilman of Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, has collected in the motion that will be presented next Thursday to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Millions of people, mostly women and children / as, are victims of networks trafficking in human beings, in their own countries and abroad, a business that moves millions of euros and which the United Nations wants to alert especially the July 30, World Day against trafficking in Persons, with the aim of raising awareness of the plight of victims of human trafficking and to promote and protect their rights.

In this sense, Ruiz Caballero said that trafficking "is a crime that exploits human beings for many purposes, including forced trafficking and sex, nearly 21 million people worldwide are victims of this."

It is therefore necessary to "raise awareness of the plight of victims of human trafficking and promote and protect their rights," stressed the popular councilman.

Thus, the mayor announced that "the city of Murcia will design and conduct a periodic campaign to raise awareness against this scourge and against those who justify it and protect it, pointing them as responsible and active part in this form of gender violence ".

He also added Ruiz Caballero, the City Council, in collaboration with the central and regional governments, "going to report, prosecute and penalize pimping, urging the central government to promote the necessary legal amendments to criminalize and toughen penalties for those doing the purchase or trafficking in women for sexual trade and who are forced to prostitution ".

In addition, the City of Murcia "include conference programs and information seminars to raise awareness of this issue in the educational offer and promote recognition in the protocols on gender violence trafficking in women, children / as," stated Conchita Ruiz .

Finally, the mayor has stated that "it will also strengthen care and comprehensive protection for women victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation and people in prostitution, through programs of employment and social integration, psychosocial care , legal and psychological counseling and intercultural mediation. "
