Councilman Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesus Pacheco, was present this morning at the donation to Ramón Gaya Museum has made Rafael Belmonte a sketch drawn by the painter-sculptor Carmelo Pastor Pla for the equestrian monument to the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius located in the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, commissioned it to replace the original Roman times which is currently in the Capitoline museums.
The sketch is from the historian Salvador Moreno and has certificate of authenticity Jaume Soler i Magriña who is the curator of the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
Carmelo Pla Shepherd was a Spanish painter and sculptor (Valencia 1924 - Aachen 1966) that just turned 20 years obtained the Pension of Sculpture of the Provincial Council of Valencia, then extended twice.
In 1948 he won the Grand Prix de Rome and a scholarship to study at the Academy of Spain in Rome and during his stay became close friends with Ramon Gaya, which continued once in Spain.
He is the author of a Via Crucis, commissioned by the Embassy of the Holy See of Rome in 1954, that was placed on the hill of San Pietro in Montorio.
