The City of Murcia, through ALEM, working since 2008 in the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy in the Municipality of Murcia (PAES), based mainly on mitigation, ie reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases.
Framed in the European Covenant of Mayors initiative, it aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the city by 20% in 2020. Murcia demonstrated leadership by becoming the first Spanish city, along with Madrid, to adhere to this incentive.
He was also one of the first cities to sign the Mayors Adapt, whereby the capital were invited to take political commitments and take steps to anticipate the inevitable effects of climate change.
