The University of Murcia regrets that the Government of the CARM has breached its undertaking to grant the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia to the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at its centenary this year during 2015-16, and asks a correction.
The rectory of the UM and the deans of the faculties of Philosophy and Letters wish to publicly express their surprise and upset by the fact that the Government of the CARM has failed to fulfill its public commitment to grant the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at its centennial during the present course 2015-2016.
On June 19, 2015, the CG of the CARM approved a proposal from its Chairman, Mr. Alberto Garre, opening record for awarding gold medals of the Region of Murcia to the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters University of Murcia.
It was proposed as an instructor of that file to the Hon.
Mr. Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
On June 23, 2015, the Minister of the Presidency and Employment and Secretary of the CG of the CARM, José Gabriel Ruiz Gonzalez, informed the Rector and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts opening record for the granting of medals gold Murcia at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the UM, and delivering them would in Act Day Region 9 June 2016, coinciding with the centenary of the former Faculty Philosophy and Letters.
Therefore, the Rector announced the news to the Governing Council UM Deans of Philosophy and Letters the also announced their respective centers, and was also disseminated through the media.
On April 22, 2016, the Head of Universities of the Ministry of Education and Universities of the CARM contacted a professor at the UM to request information and documents about the history of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters incorporate them into the files and follow the procedure for awarding the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia to respective faculties.
However, the June 1, 2016 are published in the BORM awards for this year of Gold Medals Murcia to different persons and entities, including not include the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
To this it is added that since the Presidency of the CARM has not given any explanation, or the Rector of UM, or the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, on the reason for not granting these two centers medals gold for June 9, just as planned and announced, coinciding with the centenary of the UM and the former Faculty of Arts, created in 1915-1916.
We understand that this way of proceeding has caused an unwarranted insult to the University of Murcia and his two faculties of Philosophy and Letters.
Therefore, we have to express our surprise and our deep distress.
We call on the Presidency of the CARM to give us an explanation of what happened and, above all, to amend the unjustified damage it has caused to the University of Murcia and the bad image given to citizens as soon as possible.
