The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, made today awards the World Environment Day, school and schools that have excelled in their commitment to nature and sustainability, within the various environmental programs of the City Council, celebrating this commemoration under the theme "Crazy for the environment '.
"Anticipating the World Environment Day, celebrated this Sunday, we recognize the best, children and teachers, along this course, most have been involved in environmental programs of the City Council, putting their time, energy, creativity and effort for a reponsable environmental behavior, "said the mayor.
In this sense, José Ballesta wanted to emphasize the role of the winning children: "They have made a commitment not only with their immediate environment, but also the future of our society, as they act as environmental prescribers in their homes, with their parents and siblings and tomorrow, sustainable inculcate these habits to their children. "
Specifically, School Gardens Network has approached children growing indigenous vegetables and organic farming.
The winning school was the CEIP La Arboleja.
In the category of Green Schools, celebrating its 15th edition, they were distinguished two schools: CEIP Holy Angel and the AYS of the Arboleja.
This environmental program promotes green and sustainable practices in the schools themselves to make them environment friendly establishments.
In each of these two programs they have participated throughout the course more than 6,000 schoolchildren.
The three winning schools received a diploma and a gift card for school supplies.
On the other hand, were distinguished students who have participated in the 'drawing and writing contest for school', whose theme was 'La Huerta de Murcia, our heritage'.
A total of 23 students have been awarded (first, second and third place) with a Tablet and a diploma, of the 143 participating students from eight schools.
