As indicated Coello, "the City Council of Murcia we are aware of the importance of acting against smoking and that is why, that from the Municipal Health Services in collaboration with the area of ​​Occupational Health, Personal and Home Office Health and Safety it was decided to launch a program of cessation in the workplace. "
This program, "Smoking Program" has been operating since 1998 to present with great success and was created to provide information, training and treatment in smoking and promote awareness of it.
With it, it is intended to provide support for smoking cessation to all those who wanted to quit smoking and on the other hand, achieving a smoke-free workplace.
The activities carried out are: aid to smoking cessation, weight management consultation and education on healthy habits for quitters, programs of health education, community campaigns and training of residents and nurses.
Among those entering treatment 47.06% are women and 52.94% men.
Regarding the results obtained 58.82% of patients remain abstinent at least 1 month and 27.45% at least 1 year.
2015 3824 During consultations of which 239 are new users and 25 relapses were made.
Smoking is considered an addictive, chronic and recurrent disease because it is a dependency, the first cause of death in our country and the largest public health problem in Western society.
