The Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, directed Jose Guillen, through ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change has organized a day of internal training in Digital Purchase Green and Energy Saving in information and communications technology (ICT), to be held tomorrow Wednesday at the headquarters of ALEM, located in the Local Development Agency.
This course is conducted under the accession of the City of Murcia the European Project Life Green ICT, and its purpose is to report on the relevance of energy consumption and carbon footprint of ICT use, and the importance of adopting a policy of purchases that help to minimize this consumption.
Guide green purchasing ICT developed under the LIFE project will also be presented.
Recent studies estimate that the use of computers, printers, tablets, phones, or servers are responsible for 5% of energy consumption in administrations and public bodies.
The carbon footprint of ICT is mainly due to energy consumption required for operation, but also throughout its life cycle, from the stage of manufacturing equipment and devices, to its management as waste.
Councilman Jose Guillen explained that "we firmly believe that the information and communications technology (ICT) can and should play a key role as an enabler of energy efficiency in all areas of the economy, promoting changes in behavior citizens and entrepreneurs, improving efficiency in the use of natural resources and, in parallel, reducing pollution and waste "
