The Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro Corchón, visited the Garden of Leisure of the hamlet of Aljucer, located in the Municipal Building 126, whose lands are rated green space, between Avenida El Palmar Sur Ronda .
Currently in Aljucer there occupied an area of ​​4,150 m2 with 44 plots distributed to users as follows: 19 for retired people;
9 unemployed people;
2 associations;
and 14 people active.
Said farm covers an area of ​​12,719 m2, and the project will be developed in several phase, the first phase covers an area of ​​2,890 m2 where conditioning have 24 plots of 65 m2 about each, common areas with interior streets 5m wide and shed tools, which were awarded in November 2014.
The growing demand for gardens, has indicated the Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, "it launches the second phase occupying 1,260 m2, where 20 new plots are packed with the same dimensions as the previous ones and that were awarded prior notice and public lottery in February 2016 ".
The Leisure Gardens, explained Navarro Corchón, "are municipal space set by the city of Murcia and managed by the Department of Environment, for growing vegetables in solitary consumption, nonprofit, combining social benefits with environmental and economic benefits that represents the conservation of local varieties in danger of extinction ".
The aim of this initiative has indicated Huerta holder is none other than "recover and preserve local varieties, develop an educational use and municipal use spaces like orchards with traditional systems and organic production".
All orchards are supplied with perimeter fence 2 m high, install drip irrigation, fertilizer for the first harvest and implements shed.

The activity is offered by public citizens of Murcia who have reached the age of majority call, giving preference to those who are retired, unemployed or early retirees who live in the neighborhood or district where the garden is located.
They are also eligible for a plot citizens nonprofit entities with social inclusion projects.

The orchards are awarded by public drawing for a maximum period of four years, may be subject to visits of different groups, in order to publicize the activities carried out in them, and instill values ​​on traditional and organic farming.
Murcia City Council is entitled to book on one or several plots to use as educational work and / or training related to agricultural activity (training, development of educational projects, etc.).
