The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today held a working meeting with the Secretary General of Eurocities, Anna Lisa Boni, in which, among other initiatives, presented the draft Network Carriles Bike Murcia, participatory and open approach the contributions of the different groups and social agents of the city, which will articulate an urban network of 200 kilometers of bike paths interconnected in North-South and East-West axis of the city.
This is the first meeting that the mayor has with the head of Eurocities, a network of European cities that brings together more than 170 cities in 35 countries that govern 130 million people, and which was also attended by Councilman Development, Roque Ortiz, and the Councillor for Traffic Safety and Civil Protection, Lola Sanchez.
The aim of Eurocities is to strengthen the role of local governments in the structure of multilevel governance of the European Union, working with various institutions to address common problems that affect the daily lives of Europeans, through seven large areas: environment, mobility, social affairs, cooperation, economy, culture and knowledge society.
