The mayor made the remarks by the rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, during the Day of Technological Cooperation between the City and the University of Murcia (UMU), which has been attended to full teams of technicians from both institutions, specialized in information technology and telecommunications, as well as the Councillor for Administration Modernisation, Urban Quality and Participation, Jose Guillen, the manager of the UMU, Tomas Jimenez, and the project coordinator research educational institution, Antonio Skármeta.

During the workday, which has lasted throughout the day at the Faculty of Law of the Campus de la Merced, working groups and discussion -in which participated twenty specialists from both institutions-led out the analysis of the state of joint initiatives and the finishing touches of the new systems of participation.
"Right now the technicians of the Computing Service of the City Council, the Department of Information Technology and Applied Communications (ATTICA) and the Faculty of Informatics, University of Murcia are finalizing and reviewing the technology that will make it possible to launch this new tool opening a new channel of direct participation, marking a turning point in the way of understanding citizen involvement, "said the mayor.
The council is using the experience and know-how of the UMU, an institution benchmark in technology in our country, with which the Consistory and has recently materialized two pioneering initiatives: Murcia Smart City strategy, which aim to bring the city ​​council citizens, achieving a more agile, open and participatory management;
and 'Smart Classrooms' initiative, which has been a qualitative leap in the management of classrooms Free Internet access for residents of Murcia.
