Councilman Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesus Pacheco, appointed Ambassador Silk 2016, attended this morning the traditional procession and blessing of the seed, organized by the Peña Huertana La Seda.
This time we celebrated the 41st anniversary of the blessing of the seed of the silkworm, a strong tradition for the meaning it had obtaining this fiber in Murcia.
The program of activities has been closed today with the traditional procession from the headquarters of the rock to the Ermita de San Antonio the Poor, and the subsequent Mass.
The Blessing of the Seed Silkworm dating from the nineteenth century, when the huertano craved the arrival of the first days of March to collect the seed he had stored in his hut in order to be able to bless and get a great harvest in the campaign I was about to begin.
At that time the huertanos joined in a pilgrimage to the Ermita de San Antonio El Pobre, passed through the sericulture station of La Alberca and gathered the Christ of Forgiveness, Patron of Torcedores and Weavers Silk, who was there guarded, to thereby achieve the Hermitage together and celebrate a mass campaign in which they proceeded to the blessing of the seed.
La Peña Huertana La Seda recovers this tradition in 1975, first in Santa Catalina del Monte, due to the poor condition of the Ermita de San Antonio the Poor, who has returned to take her home since 2006, after the rehabilitation carried out City Hall Murcia.
