The University of Murcia (UMU) hosts this Friday, Feb. 26, on the campus of Espinardo, the VII Olympiad geology of the region to high school students and 4 of the ESO.
During the inauguration, which will be at 9:30 pm in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Chemistry "Hermenegildo Lumeras de Castro," the documentary "Geological Heritage in Moratalla" produced by the Integra Foundation with scientific advice will be screened research group of Geology UMU.
The tests, which will begin at 10:45 pm in the North Classroom Building, consist of a multiple-choice test related to the geological content of secondary and high schools and a visual recognition of 12 copies of rocks, minerals and fossils.
At the end of the test, at 13:00, participating students will visit the Museum of Soils, College of Biology.
"With this initiative, we encourage and involve high school students in the knowledge of geology, as well as highlight the importance of this branch of science in today's world," says the professor of the University of Murcia Francisco Guillen Mondejar, committee member organizer.
The selected form the group that will represent the Region of Murcia in the national phase of the Olympiad, to be held in Jaca during the month of April.
The winners of the national phase of the Olympiad will go to the international final will be in Japan.
Olympiad in the region is organized by the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences, the Geological Society of Spain, the University of Murcia (Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Geology and Soil Science) and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
