President of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, said today that the future of the region should be based on research carried out in universities, highlighting the scientific work being done by 320 scientific groups available to the University Murcia (UMU).
Sanchez has made these statements during a visit to the main research centers that UMU has on the campus of Espinardo, and which has had the opportunity to check the research undertaken on bass, bream and zebrafish, and the pilot recovery of contaminated soils Portman Bay project.
The visit, which has been accompanied by the rector, José Orihuela, has started in the Department of Research Support (SAI), which its director, Teresa Castells, explained the work carried out in its various services, such as tissue culture and scientific instrumentation.
He has also toured the facilities of the service of molecular biology and service agroforestry experiments and laboratories of the Faculty of Biology, where his dean, Alfonsa García, explained some of the research that different teachers develop, in particular on fish .
During the visit they have been also present the Minister of Education and Universities, Maribel Sanchez-Mora;
Vice Chancellor for Research, Juan Antonio Garcia;
President of the Board of the University of Murcia, Javier Ruano, and the director of the Seneca Foundation, Antonio González.
