The Minister for Family and Equal Opportunities Thomas Violante, visited the Senior Community Center Murcia I, on the occasion of its 44th anniversary, which praised "the great activity and maintaining the work developing their over 16,300 members."
Thomas Violante said the Social Centre for the Elderly Murcia I, opened in 1972, was the second 'home of the pensioner' of Spain, as these centers are then termed, after the first one opened in Madrid.
Currently, it has launched 28 workshops to 994 users participate.
Every day you go through it about 200 people, "which shows that it is a living and huge activity center, thanks to the efforts of all who visit older," he said.
Elderly people center celebrated the anniversary with musical performances and ballroom dancing.
In addition to his English workshops, painting, tai-chi, gymnastics, crafts, partners benefit from the activities and services offered by the center, such as billiards and board games with their championships, library, cafeteria and hairdressing.
"Our commitment is to promote active aging, promoting personal autonomy, integration and full participation, because the greater the pillars of the family, society, and earned the recognition they deserve," said Thomas Violante.
The Minister said: "The regional government promotes healthy aging, which promotes personal autonomy, integration and full participation through activities scheduled the 17 centers it owns, which have more than 100,000 associates."
During this year we have scheduled more than 350 workshops on gerontogimnasia, crafts, poetry, theater, intergenerational exchanges and painting, among others.
