More plots for Murcia cultivate their own garden.
The Governing Board has given approval to the public call for choosing to garden leisure, adding two new plots: one in Espinardo and another in Santiago el Mayor.
People who want to take over some of these gardens may apply at City Hall by filling out an application and presenting it in the municipal registry.
Although the offer is open to any adult Murcia, preference will be pensioners and early retirees.
The plots included in this announcement are:

The plots were awarded by lottery, which will take place on 20 September in the Lecture Hall of the City Hall Annex Building, at ten o'clock that applicants must attend, "by itself or through duly authorized representative, to participate in the same
The 'leisure gardens', promoted by the Department of Environment and Urban Quality is a project that is to allocate plots within municipally owned green space for the cultivation of fruit and vegetable varieties.
Although the choice of crop is free, priority is given to the use of traditional varieties of Murcia.
In this way the social benefits of such gardens with environmental and economic benefits that represents the conservation of local varieties in danger of extinction and maintenance of an agroecosystem of great interest as the former Huerta de Murcia, with the general objectives:
- Use local farmland as social orchards under organic production systems and traditional.
- Collect and preserve local varieties of the Huerta de Murcia.
- Develop educational achievement, training and outreach.
People take care of some of these gardens may apply at City Hall.

Those selected can use the land allotted for a period of one year.
The products obtained from the orchards will be used exclusively for the consumption and seed multiplication of local varieties.
The crops are grown in organic farming system, in order not to handle hazardous pesticides and to guarantee respect for health and the environment.
With this new project aims to maintain the agricultural landscape and crop-associated biodiversity, providing a leisure activity for older people who can contribute to improved physical and mental health and serve as informative spaces with improved knowledge about the origin and evolution of the garden
