[Murcia and Seville become the only two Spanish cities to adhere to the European declaration of Circular Cities (02/01/2021)

| This is a declaration signed by more than thirty cities from different European countries to establish a network of organizations involved with the circular economy | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, led by Mercedes Bernab , is immersed in the preparation of the Circular Economy Strategy, a document aligned with the plans of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, as well as with the Urban Agenda 2030. In this way, within the framework of these works, Murcia has become, together with Seville, one of the only two Spanish cities to adhere to the declaration of circular cities, Circular Cities, a commitment to continue advancing in the path to transition to a circular and sustainable economy. It is a declaration signed by a group of 35 cities from different countries that will allow European local and regional governments to communicate interventions in a circular economy, giving them support and dissemination, providing a vision A shared circular city and establish a network of organizations committed to sustainability, sharing their experiences, challenges and successes. Some of these cities come from countries such as Albania, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden, among others. "Belonging to this group of cities is a recognition of the important effort that the Murcia City Council is making in the Circular Economy area, not only in the field of urban waste recycling and wastewater use, but also "Through its innovation and development actions, promoting new business opportunities, such as the Valuewaste, Cityloops and Hoops projects", the mayor highlighted. Recognition from the Circular Economy Diagnosis The international organization ICLE-Local Governments for Sustainability invited the Consistory to sign the declaration after the presentation of the Circular Economy diagnosis, whose conclusions show that Murcia is progressing towards sustainability in water matters , energy and waste.
