[The PSOE calls for the reform of the street vendor ordinance to protect a sector that has had worse treatment than the rest of commerce (11/12/2020)

The socialist councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa affirms that "the vendors have endured many months of harsh conditions that have led them to a very tough economic situation, and furthermore they have not been able to benefit from the financial aid that the City Council has been made available to different sectors and that most have not been executed at the end of the year ".

The Municipal Socialist Group already requested in its day the modification of the Non-Sedentary Street Vending Ordinance, but now its reform is more necessary because we are facing a sector that "has received worse treatment, even discriminatory, throughout this pandemic than the rest of the trade, "explains councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa.

In this regard, remember that in our municipality the markets closed on March 12 and began to recover their activity as of May 18, although the opening of the markets ended last September with the relocation of the market of the Ermita del Rosario in the surroundings of La Fica.

Therefore, "the vendors have endured many months of harsh conditions that have led to a very tough economic situation, and furthermore they have not been able to benefit from the financial aid that the city council has made available.

n of different sectors and that the majority have not been executed at the end of the year ".

He insists that the pandemic has been much worse for this sector because "let us remember that while in a period of confinement, shopping centers, food stores, supermarkets were open, street vendors have remained at home, and could not carry out their activity In addition, at present they continue to have occupation restrictions in the markets, since only 75% can be installed, it is necessary to control the capacity and maintain sanitary measures, but it is also necessary to give the option to all to be able to work ".

"Now that it has been proven that contagion occurs more indoors than outdoors, street vendors deserve a treatment, so we believe that it is time to start working on the reform of the ordinance ", explains Larrosa, who has presented a motion to the next Plenary in this regard.

In it, it also demands that a protocol be established between the councils of Commerce, Markets and Public Highway and Social Rights and Family so that when illegal sellers are detected in the inspections, they are referred to the municipal Social Services in order to check if they belong to vulnerable groups.
