Huermur has learned of the poor condition of the Arco de la Aurora niche in the heart of the city of Murcia, with various flaws and cracks.
As this arch is protected and cataloged in the PECHA, immediate measures and a complete revision have been requested from the city councilThe Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) denounces the damage to the well-known Arco de la Aurora in the heart of the city of Murcia.
The conservation entity has been aware of the presence of landslides, cracks, and damages in this element of the urban heritage of the city, which is also protected and cataloged in the Special Plan of the Historic-Artistic Center of Murcia (PECHA).For this reason, it has requested in writing the Murcia City Council to apply immediate measures to preserve this cultural legacy in the proper conditions, and to carry out a complete and thorough review of the arch, to diagnose its current state of conservation, and propose the necessary measures.
.Finally, Huermur recalls that as Juan Antonio Carrión points out on his website, this so-called Arco de la Aurora that gives its name to the street where it is located, is one of the iconic references of the city and its name comes from the Marian devotions, meeting at the end of the street crowned on a canvas with the Virgin Mary.
It is said that being a narrow street and very dark at night, that image was put there in 1767 to give security to its neighbors and mitigate their fear.
Its layout is medieval and its arch is located in the old Portillo of the Arab wall that closed the Arrabal de la Arrixaca in the 13th century, and went from the old Acequia street to the orchard
