Colectivos de Beniaján positive for the pandemic (01/12/2020)

Last Saturday, November 28, SOMOS + took place, a virtual meeting of associations and groups from Beniaján called from La Estación, a community center managed by Fundación Cepaim in this town.

The event takes place precisely in a context of health crisis whereby much of the work carried out by the groups in the territory, as in many other sectors, has had to be suspended or adapted with difficulty to each new normality to which we has led the pandemic.

These days, for example, the XVIII Edmundo Chacour Theater Show is being held in the Auditorium after eight months of postponement.

There won't be so much luck for the 2021 Carnivals, whose suspension has already been officially communicated because it is a festival that annually brings together thousands of participants and attendees in the streets of Beniaján and that, like other mass events, today are clearly unviable. The meeting was attended by representatives of about twenty local institutions, both sports, cultural, artistic or of a neighborhood and social nature: Columbares, Beto, Cáritas Parroquial, El Bojar Women's Center, Musical Group, Edmundo Chacour Theater, Enkidu Theater, Coral Vía Musicalis, Chirigota de Beniaján, Pro-Carnaval Association, Argarruchal, Neighborhood Association, Guard Archeology, Beniaján Basket, Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, as well as the Municipal Board, the Auditorium and the Cultural Center of Beniaján.

The contributions of each of them were showing that, in the face of this irremediable uncertainty that has been marking the planning and implementation of activities, the sum of efforts to overcome common challenges, mutual and determined support between institutions, is essential, and the opening to an increasingly broad and diverse spectrum of citizenship that must be responded to in coherence with the social commitment that unites them.

Working from a collective by and for the people of a specific territory, as is the case of the entities of Beniaján, is part of that strategy that regains strength in the new model of society we are addressing: betting on the local, for the economy, leisure and culture of proximity.bet on the local, the economy, leisure and local culture.bet on the local, the economy, leisure and local culture. The conference was planned as a space for listening, reflection and transmission of good practices in the field of associationism, seeking innovative strategies for networking.

For example, it was recalled what happened last year with "Beniaján en Vela", an event in which several of the associations present at the meeting were involved, resulting in a collaborative experience of great repercussion and significance that, had it not been for the pandemic, would have occurred again in 2020.

Faced with the impossibility of being able to concentrate large audiences, the opportunities that online platforms offer us today to maintain contact with the social base and also certain programming were highlighted, but without losing sight of the fact that There are many people for whom the digital divide, due to lack of skills or precarious media,it is still a barrier.

For this reason, as far as possible and provided that safety protocols and regulations are met, adjusting capacity and formats, we must continue to advocate for face-to-face experience: a commitment to safe, close leisure, one step away from home.

For this, it is considered essential that the entities be able to share resources and optimize the possibilities offered by the socio-cultural facilities that the town has, such as the Auditorium, the new Library and Cultural Center, the La Azacaya Center, the Ecomuseum, La Estación or La Madriguera, providing them to groups that lack adequate facilities and giving greater diffusion to their programming; also the enhancement of public outdoor space as the safest environment for holding certain activities:There was talk of working on a collaborative program that fills the town squares and gardens, Vía Verde or Calle Mayor with cultural and artistic content.

In this sense, the Municipal Board highlighted that Beniaján has a new highly versatile space, such as the track of the CEIP Ntra.

Sra.

De Fátima, equipped with bleachers and to which a large roof has recently been added.

The recent inauguration of the new municipal library and study room was also very celebrated.

And other issues addressed were the need to expand the offer of youth leisure in the town or the recovery of historical and cultural heritage, objectives that are already underway or are set on the near horizon of many of the participating associations. The meeting was used to share the results of the online survey launched a month ago, also from La Estación, to find out the degree of knowledge that the citizens of Beniaján have about local facilities and entities.

Both initiatives have been organized within the framework of “Redes Sur”, a project financed by Bankia and Fundación Cajamurcia, from which we are working to promote associations, participation and cooperation between associations and public administrations in the Cordillera territory.

South of the municipality of Murcia.

SOMOS + ended with the commitment to establish a formal network of internal collaboration between groups and external dissemination of the activities they develop, to continue adding and building community, always positive, for Beniaján.
