to 2 p.m.
and from 6 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. In the words of the rector, in the situation caused by COVID-19, "calling off the Photography Award was not an option.
Art should not stop; it was and is essential to continue supporting us, oxygenate us in the midst of discouragement.
complying with one of the key premises of this time: safe culture.
The option to present the works electronically was then opened and the response has been overwhelming; we have received 402 photographs from 107 authors from various parts of the Spanish geography ".
"I must therefore thank all those who with their effort, tenacity and enthusiasm have made this nineteenth edition possible; the jury, always so willing; and, of course, all the participants and the winners for offering us light these days dark ", has concluded. The winning work, by Cádiz-born Antonio Jesús Pérez Gil, is made up of a series of five photographs grouped together under the title 'The sea moves us, the sea moves'.
The winning photographs were taken in Fuvemeh (Ghana), a fishing village located between the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Volta River that has disappeared as a result of coastal erosion and the rise of the oceans caused by global warming.
"Listening to the words of the ancient inhabitants of Fuvemeh and their reality teaches us, and now more than ever, the evident fragility of our planet and ourselves", Pérez Gil concludes. In addition, four honorable mentions have been awarded and also a photographic production award convened in collaboration with La Cámara Roja, consisting of the printed production of an exhibition project and its exhibition in a room at the UMU.
This award has gone to Beatriz Rivas Meco, whose project 'La Roca' has been selected among the 42 participants in this modality.
