The long-awaited final of 'Thesis in 3 minutes' will be held tomorrow at UMU (11/11/2020)

| The final gala of 'Thesis in 3 minutes (T3M)' will take place tomorrow, Thursday, November 12, at the University Social Center (CSU) and it can be followed in streaming at the following channel link https: //tv.um.es/video? id = 142949 | This contest, launched by the Unit for Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC + i), of the Vice-Rector's Office for Scientific Transfer and Dissemination in collaboration with the International Doctoral School of the University of Murcia (EIDUM), will host about 40 doctoral students and doctorates from the UMU in a challenge: being able to present their research in exactly three minutes in the form of a monologue, as a nod to the FameLab contest, and with a language accessible to all audiences. After the first phase, the 38 participants face a final marked by COVID-19.

The activity, developed from the CSU, will alternate face-to-face lectures together with the virtual defense of numerous researchers who will defend their theses from Valencia, Mallorca and beyond the borders from Denmark, Portugal or Colombia.

The final can be followed in streaming through the channel TV.UM.es and on twitter in the profile of @UMUDivulga. The jury will have to assess the exhibiting capacity of these contestants to transfer their knowledge to a non-specialized audience.

To provide more originality, their exhibitions may use any material as support, from a slide presentation, to the use of guitars, a Rubik's cube or other objects that they consider appropriate. With the humor and know-how of Santi García Cremades Without a doubt, one of the most striking faces of this contest will be the scientific and mathematical popularizer Santi García Cremades, in charge of presenting and moderating the final.

The thematic diversity of the theses will not leave anyone indifferent, for all tastes and ages.

From cybercriminality, through health Big Data to the effects of climate change or the use of Paleolithic tools are just some of the many proposals that will be discussed in the contest. This project was born for the first time at the University of Queensland (Australia) under the name 'Three Minutes Thesis 3MT'.

Since then, numerous institutions have joined in the objective of bringing the work of these researchers closer to society and increasing interest in scientific dissemination.

It also seeks to instill in doctoral students the importance of dissemination for their own social advancement within the different areas of knowledge. Five prizes, one for each category, and two second prize The total of the prizes amounts to € 4,800.

Each first prize for the best communication of a doctoral thesis will be endowed with € 800 in the categories of Arts and Humanities, Experimental Sciences, Health Sciences, Mathematics and Technical Education, and Social, Legal and Economic Sciences.

In addition, two second prizes of € 400 will be awarded to the best communication of a doctoral thesis in any of the categories. Jury It will be difficult for a jury to assess the participants: José Manuel López Nicolás, vice-rector for Scientific Transfer and Dissemination and professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology A at UMU, Delfina Roca Marín, head of the UCC + i and associate professor of the Department of Information and Documentation at UMU; Francisco Guillermo Díaz Baños, director of EIDUM and professor of the Department of Physical Chemistry at UMU and María Dolores Hidalgo Montesinos, secretary of EIDUM and professor of the department of Basic Psychology and Methodology at UMU. This activity has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Science and Innovation. Without a doubt, transmitting each one of the theses based on creativity, innovation and in an informative way in three exact minutes will be a challenge for these finalists.
