| The three best proposals will be part of the Murcia Green Infrastructure Strategy | Murcia City Council will participate this week (November 12 and 13) for the fifth consecutive year in Climathon, the largest initiative held worldwide to fight against climate change.
This year the edition, which will be held online simultaneously in the main capitals of the world, will serve to provide ideas to improve the connection of urban green areas with peri-urban areas and natural spaces, such as the Segura river, the surroundings of the Huerta or Places of Cultural Interest (SCI).The three best proposals will be part of the Murcia Green Infrastructure Strategy.
The winning idea will receive a financial reward of 750 euros.
In addition, the jury will award two second prize winners each with 500 euros.
The different proposals must attend to the following four work areas to design the final idea:-Connection between urban and peri-urban green areas and natural spaces: solutions to improve the connection between green areas and their surroundings, for ecosystems and people.-Green infrastructure and improvement of the identity and image of the municipality of Murcia: solutions that allow creating a link between the green infrastructure of Murcia and its image, serving as an economic, social and tourist reference.-Conservation, improvement, restoration or creation of ecosystem services in green areas: solutions that allow the effective provision of ecosystem services (accumulation of water, biodiversity reservoir, recreation areas, reduction of climatic rigors).-Economic evaluation of the ecosystem services provided by green areas: solutions to be able to economically value the ecosystem services that green areas provide us.It should be established that for green infrastructure the European Commission states that it is a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural spaces and other environmental elements designed and managed to offer a wide range of ecosystem services.
It includes green spaces and other physical elements in land and marine areas. The Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, pointed out that "this year we join Climathon, which will be held online due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, with the aim of clarifying ideas and solutions to improve the connectivity of urban green areas with peri-urban areas and natural spaces, such as the Huerta and the mountain, with the river as the backbone, providing economic, social and cultural benefits to the municipality of Murcia. The Murcia City Council, through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM), dependent on the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, and in collaboration with the Murcian Environmental Energy Technology Center (CETENMA) has designed this event, divided into three sessions, where participants will work in mentored teams, creating solutions and developing them into a tangible project.
In addition, during its development, international connections will be established with other cities on the planet that pose similar challenges and that will talk about the solutions they are working on.To participate it is only necessary to have a computer, internet connection, a microphone and preferably a web-cam.
