| The Murcia City Council and the CEOM Association sign an agreement to develop inclusion and rehabilitation actions in the Mayayo facilities | The Governing Board has given the green light to the collaboration agreement with the Association for the Integration of People with Intellectual Disabilities CEOM, for the development of inclusion and rehabilitation actions in the facilities of the Mayayo municipal nursery.In this way, the Murcia City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration directed by José Guillén, and in collaboration with the CEOM Association, aim to recover and facilitate the performance of actions aimed at recovering the part of the Mayayo municipal nursery, where the gardening employment workshop is also held.This agreement, which does not involve any expense for the Murcia City Council, aims to continue with plant production, continue to develop formal training actions aimed at employment, through the implementation of certificates of professionalism, carry out accessible orchards and maintain the activity of therapeutic gardens.An ecological resource center will also be created by enhancing the agroecological heritage of the traditional garden, recovering the biodiversity of traditional agricultural species with the collaboration of the University of Murcia.Likewise, the RAERM (Agroecology and Ecodevelopment Network of the Murcia Region) also collaborate in this project and participate in projects that are already underway such as the Observatory of Agroecological Innovation in the face of climate change and Weaving Networks for the Huerta de Murcia.
Projects in which, in addition to associations, the University of Murcia and the Murcia City Council, various producers, entities and companies related to the agri-food sector have joined.Actions have been carried out such as the planting of a collection of endangered fruit and citrus trees, the recovery and multiplication of seeds of threatened local varieties, and trials of quinoa, amaranth and moringa as alternative crops.These projects are being developed in collaboration with the councils of Sustainable Development and Huerta, led by Antonio Navarro, the council of Family and Social Rights, led by Pilar Torres, and the Employment service of the Murcia City Council, led by the mayor Pedro García Rex .Benefits of this project for the people who participateThe benefits can be grouped into several levels.
At a therapeutic level, being in contact with nature and doing an outdoor activity related to the care and attention to plants improves physical and emotional well-being and helps improve executive functions.At the personal development level, in terms of the recovery of self-esteem and the improvement of social relationships, promoting communication and the exchange of personal experiences.Training and labor inclusion are also a fundamental tool for acquiring specific skills and knowledge that facilitate the performance of occupation and the labor insertion of people.A project of social integrationThe Mayayo municipal nursery is a clear example of teamwork and, above all, of integration.
Through the agreements with CEOM, many young people with intellectual disabilities work and learn.
In total, 60 people have been trained under these guidelines.An example of the work carried out is the planting of seasonal flowers that decorate the streets and squares of the municipality of Murcia, flowers that have been produced with the help of CEOM personnel, who have carried out several courses such as' Auxiliary activities in nurseries, gardens and garden centers level 1´. These young people are part of a project where they develop social integration and teamwork, in addition to training.
These jobs allow them to have real contact with the world of work, learn a trade, in addition to supplying significant satisfaction from a job well done on a personal and professional level.The nursery as a key plant production center for public use These units have a multitude plastic greenhouse equipped with climate control and fully autonomous localized irrigation, three tunnel greenhouses and an outdoor area where the most rustic plants are grown, equipped with an anti-weed mesh and autonomous localized irrigation system with incorporated fertilization.
.The City Council has also carried out different improvements in the Mayayo facilities, such as, for example, the repair of several greenhouses, placement of protective plastic structures, two new irrigation booths, leveling the ground of different greenhouses, as well as several more projects that are underway, with a view to turning this municipal space into a key center for the production of plants for public use, as well as a place for training and social and labor integration.
