| Failure to comply with the allowed capacity of some of the lines and the reduction in frequency triggers complaints from users | The Association of Consumers and Network Users, CONSUMUR, considers it inadmissible that measures are not adopted to guarantee access to the interurban bus in the municipality of Murcia, despite the continuous complaints from users since last March, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the organization, it is incoherent that there is a Coronavirus Containment Plan in Public Transport in the Region of Murcia, the objective of which is to “immediately adopt adequate containment, prevention and control measures to protect the health of users and workers of the public transport network of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia ”and that, however, not only has the frequency on most lines been reduced to more than 50%, but in many cases it is not respected , on the part of the concession company, the maximum capacity allowed, limited since last March, so that users cannot comply with the recommended social distance. The general situation is one of collapse, especially at peak times.
The user does not know whether or not he will be able to access the bus until it reaches the stop, since in the case of full capacity he must wait for the next one, but without the guarantee that he can access, since it can also be full.
To this must be added that many lines can take up to more than an hour, even two.CONSUMUR does not understand how these measures have been adopted, in theory preventive of the contagion of COVID-19, so it asks that, although the reduction in capacity may be considered appropriate, it be complemented with a greater frequency of buses, which guarantees the right of users to use public transport."We understand this situation that it is not exclusive to transport in the municipality of Murcia, but that we can extend it to the rest of the region by both urban and interurban buses.
For this reason, from Consumur we request that the competent administrations intervene and carry out periodic inspections that oblige the concessionary companies of these transport services to comply with the measures, in which case, they must adopt exemplary sanctions ", says the president of the organization, Roberto Barceló Vivancos.Indefinite strike of Latbus workers starting tomorrowThe decision of the Regional Administration not to recover 100% of the service between districts has caused the unemployment, indefinitely, of the workers of the Latbus company, which will begin tomorrow, October 15.CONSUMUR, although it expresses its support for the workers' claim, regrets that users are the ones most affected by this situation.
In this sense, it hopes that minimum services will be respected and that an agreement will be reached as soon as possible, allowing normalized access to the interurban bus in the municipality of Murcia. The organization makes available to citizens who wish to know their rights as users of public transport, as well as file a claim, its Consumer and User Service Telephone 968 22 30 82.
