| The works have involved the renovation of 5,000 m2 of pavement and the creation of new pedestrian routes inside of the garden | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visited this morning the end of the work of the Fofó garden, which has been completely renovated and opens for Murcian families with new living areas and recreation by the lake, among other novelties.
The works, which have improved the accessibility, functionality and aesthetics of this central green environment, have finished this week.“The Jardin de Fofó, with about 16,000 square meters, is one of the largest gardens in the municipality, consolidated as a familiar point of reference, which has been renovated and opens with more lawns, shaded spaces and living areas, conforming an innovative design with the lake as the central axis ”, highlighted José Ballesta.The work undertaken has valued the ecosystem of the place, both in the lake and in the flowerbeds, favoring the development of native fauna, and have led to a notable visual improvement for the Murcian people who cross this central green area every day.Development of the largest lake in MurciaRegarding the lake - the largest in the municipality, with a volume of 1,600 cubic meters and a surface area of ??3,200 square meters -, the City Council has replaced the old perimeter fence with a modern railing equipped with LED lighting.Conditioning work has also been carried out on it, such as painting, sanding, caulking, repairing damage and removing graffiti, as well as thorough cleaning.
It should be remembered that the works have not entailed, at any time, annoyances for the fauna that inhabits this environment, since they have been executed by sectors, respecting the local fauna.Renovation of 5,000 m2 of pavementAmong the actions that have been carried out, the renovation of 5,000 square meters of pavement stands out, eliminating the existing slopes and guaranteeing accessibility to the different areas of the park, as well as the creation of new pedestrian routes inside the garden.As a whole, the City Council has allocated an injection of close to 310,000 euros to the complete renovation of the Fofó garden, located in the Santa María de Gracia neighborhood, which includes a population of 12,500 people, of which around 5,000 are young and children, so it is a project with high social profitability.A rest area with relaxation bedsThe park opens lawn areas, urban design furniture, relaxation beds and new sculptural pieces that serve as a rest area.
Likewise, thinking of the residents of the area who walk along this green space every day, new pergolas have been installed and vegetation has been added to the existing ones, which will allow a reduction in heat in the months of high temperatures, increasing the density of vegetation and achieving an increase in the shady places of the garden.Pool PlanThe improvement actions carried out in the pond are part of the Pool Plan 2023, “with which we are giving water a central place in the parks and gardens of the municipality, an element that is very present in the history of our city , indispensable in Mediterranean gardens since their origins ”.The Pool Plan 2023 includes four major measures, among which is the renovation of nine major works, such as the four ponds, such as La Seda, El Salitre, Los Patos, in San Ginés and the Fofó park, and the five fountains historical sites, such as the Circular Square, the Casa Torre del Reloj (Bacon Bridge), the José Cánovas Ortiz Garden (Beniaján), the Juana Jugán Avenue (Bacon Bridge) and the Liberty Avenue (Guadalupe).The construction of ten new ornamental fountains in the most emblematic places of the city; the holding of an annual ideas contest, in which the winning project will be executed; and the investment of 100,000 euros per year for the construction of new sources in the municipality and its districts, for five years, are the other three major measures that make up the Plan Alberca 2023.
