| Budgets boost social spending, with an increase of 35%, and support for the productive sectors, which rises by 56% | The important reinforcement of the regional directorates of Citizens and Popular Party and the effort of dialogue of the municipal groups of both parties has finally borne fruit in a budget agreement for the Murcia City Council. We have worked with the sole objective of carrying out budgets that serve as a starting point to develop the economic and social reactivation plan of the Murcia City Council that we unanimously approved last June.
Today, therefore, we advance in unity of action and convey a message of stability, very necessary in the difficult times we are going through.
What has been agreed today allows the reinforcement of social care and economic stimulus measures to face the crisis derived from the pandemic, placing Murcians at the center of management. With this reorientation of municipal resources, we are prioritizing spending during this crisis in the coalition government in the social area, since the budget includes an increase of 4.4 million euros for spending in the social area and housing, thus fulfilling to the Reactivation Plan, specifically 35% more than in 2019, reaching 17 million euros.Regarding programs related to well-being for the elderly, minors, women and families, it has increased by 22.4%, from 18.6 to 25 million euros.
A total of 2,740,000 euros is added to these items for investment in housing, which shows the social nature of these budgets.Regarding the economic area, spending related to employment policies and activities, economic promotion, trade and tourism increased by 1.8 million euros, reaching 4.8 million euros, representing an increase of 56% with respect to the 2019 budget, in accordance with the Murcia City Council's Economic Reactivation Plan. With regard to investments, a total of 1,525,000 will be allocated for the implementation of economic reactivation projects.Another of the lines that make up this budget is related to making investments that allow the reactivation of the economy.
In this budget, investments stand at more than 25 million euros.
To this budget is added the reorientation of the remaining investments towards projects with the capacity to transform the municipality due to its strategic nature or due to its ability to structure and generate employment.Regarding Commerce, Markets and Public Roads, its budget in current spending is increased by 7.96% to try to cope with the growing expense caused by the hygienic-sanitary measures and social distancing required in weekly squares and markets, commercial spaces on which thousands of families depend. Thus, together with the budget, an extraordinary credit file is processed for strategic projects for the city that represents more than 16 million for urban development projects in neighborhoods and districts, administrative streamlining, mobility improvement, energy efficiency or improvement of green spaces.
Likewise, the Development area will have a remainder of 8 million for investments and another three for maintenance. For its part, the Parks and Gardens service will also increase its budget to improve service and serve the more than 3,000 green areas in the municipality. The budget will allow a decided commitment by the cultural sector through production support programs such as Cultural Reactives, as well as the reorientation of Sports, Education and Youth policies. The pandemic is hitting our country, our Region and our municipality hard, therefore from the Citizens and the Popular Party we have reoriented the budget to strengthen those areas that need it in this crisis, regardless of which party manages them, adapting the budget items to the reactivation plan and what Murcians really need.
For the coalition government the welfare of the citizens will always be above any other consideration.
