| It is an initiative of the WHO, Murcia is part of, for the creation of environments and services that promote active and healthy aging that allow the elderly to live with dignity and participate fully and actively in society | The Department of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation is promoting a series of actions for the preparation of a diagnostic study and an action plan that allows progress in the implementation of the Murcia City-Friendly with the Elderly project.It is an initiative promoted by the World Health Organization in the face of the progressive aging of the world population, of which Murcia has been a part since 2017, when the accession of the municipality to the World Network of Cities and Communities was approved in plenary session Friendly with the Elderly.
"This project, of which Murcia is a part, comprehensively addresses the aspects that affect the day-to-day life of the elderly, taking into account their needs, perceptions and opinions," explained the mayor Paqui Pérez.In this way, the Department is taking the first steps to promote the development of the work corresponding to the first phase of the process established by the WHO: elaboration of a diagnosis through the participation of the elderly, through focus groups, on the degree of friendliness of the city and subsequent drafting of the Murcia Elderly-Friendly City action plan 2021-2024.For the person in charge of the Elderly service, it is essential to advance in this project that would begin by giving the elders a leading role.
"They are the ones who will best convey what problems they encounter in their day-to-day life, what are their most pressing needs and what solutions they propose, therefore, their participation is essential to have an initial diagnosis of the situation of the municipality in in terms of friendly spaces, environments and services ".
