The award ceremony will be by videoconference this Wednesday at 4:00 pm | The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Murcia has delivered its annual award of recognition to the cooperation of people and organizations in the achievement of academic, scientific and social goals within the field of computing to Murcian Darío Gil, director of IBM Research, for his great contribution to the world of computing.
This award was established on the occasion of the XXV anniversary of the Faculty. IBM Research is one of the largest and most influential corporate research laboratories in the world, and Darío Gil is the twelfth director in its 75-year history.
IBM Research is comprised of more than 3,000 researchers at 19 locations on six continents advancing the future of computing.
Dr.
Gil leads innovation efforts at IBM, directing research strategies in areas including artificial intelligence, cloud, quantum computing, and exploratory science.
Under his leadership, IBM was the first company in the world to build programmable quantum computers and make them universally available through the cloud. An advocate of collaborative research models, Gil co-chairs the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, which promotes fundamental research in artificial intelligence for the benefit of industry and society.
He also co-chairs the COVID-19 High-Performance Computing Consortium, which provides access to the world's most powerful high-performance computing resources in support of COVID-19 research. The award ceremony will take place this Wednesday, September 30, at 4:00 p.m., via videoconference.
