Murcia City Council reinforces the tram service to the University of Murcia on the occasion of the beginning of the course (28/09/2020)

| All trams are launched, including the two reserve convoys, specifically one of them runs throughout the day the service from the Juan Carlos I stop to the Espinardo Campus | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor for Infrastructures of the University of Murcia, Belén López, and the manager of the Murcia Tram, visited Line 1 at the university today on the occasion of the start of the course .Thanks to the collaboration between the Transport service of the Murcia City Council, the vice-rector for infrastructures of the UMU and Murcia Tramway, a reinforcement device has been implemented in the Juan Carlos I-University of Murcia axis, thus compensating for the restriction of capacity imposed on public transport due to the pandemic. Thus, between the Juan Carlos I stop (next to Emuasa) and the Espinardo campus of the UMU, one of the two reserve trams is maintained throughout the day.

In this way, when the vehicle returns from the university to the center, the route ends at the Juan Carlos I stop (without continuing in the direction of Nueva Condomina) and, from that stop, it returns to universities. This reinforcement involves the injection into the frequency of the line of one more tram to the university, approximately every 20 minutes.

This is achieved throughout the day, starting at 9:00 a.m., maintaining frequencies that alternate according to the sequence of the next step at all stops on that section: 7min-6min-10min-10min-10min.It should be remembered that already at the beginning of the year a reinforcement of the line with two reserve trams was established, thus improving the frequency of passage in the morning and midday rush hours.

In addition, in the sections with the highest demand at peak times, the tram rebounds at the Cubos stop, returning to the center and universities without reaching the Nueva Condomina stop, which at that time has a lower load of passengers.Councilor Rebeca Pérez explained that "both in the City Council and in the University we are committed to facilitating the mobility of the university community and of the people who move along this axis, working with the municipal tram concessionaire so that the service is the best possible".Since the start of the tram, in May 2011, this mode of transport has established itself as one of the mobility preferences among the people who access the Espinardo campus every day.In a typical month, such as October, the average number of travelers on a weekday who took the tram on campus amounts to 5,259 people, that is, 10,500 trips, of the 28,200 trips by tram on a weekday of that month, corresponds to campus users, 37% of all trips on a weekday.According to the voucher used, out of the total of the 5.95 million travelers in 2019, more than 1.9 million of these trips correspond to users of the campus voucher, the student voucher (monthly) and the student bonomurcia.

32% of all travelers are generated by the educational field.Security and cleaning protocolsIt should be remembered that the Department of Youth and Sustainable Mobility of the Murcia City Council was a pioneer in the installation of hydroalcoholic gel dispensers in public transport in the municipality.

Specifically, on the tram there are dispensers in each of the six entrances available to each vehicle.

The line personnel remind users of the advantages of using them when accessing and descending, so that with this hand disinfection a first barrier is achieved against contagion by contact with support or holding areas. In addition, a campaign has been launched to remember and insist on the obligation to use the mask in any space and, especially, in public transport, by covering all the fronts of the vehicles with a mask.Cleaning and disinfection protocols are rigorously carried out every day in all vehicles and facilities of the Murcia Tram.Another measure that helps to avoid contagion is the recirculation of air through the air conditioning equipment in the passenger cabins, as well as the renewal generated by the opening of the doors every two minutes, which is the average travel time of vehicles between each stop.App and web enhancementsMurcia Tram has renewed its app to improve time optimization and minimize waiting at stops by informing in real time of the passage of the next tram, at any of the stops. One more novelty at this beginning of this course is the new totally dynamic and agile website, which provides real-time information about the passage of trams throughout the line (just like the app, for those who don't have the app) make an appointment to carry out procedures in the citizen service offices, it has a personalized chat with an agile response and interaction commitment and, in case of having been reported, it also gives the possibility of paying that complaint electronically without the need for go to the office.
