| The objective is to revegetate and green the municipality, covering 30,000 m2 | The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visited Comuneros Street in the Santa Eulalia neighborhood this morning, where the 'Plan Hiedra' is being carried out.The initiative, launched by the municipal Parks and Gardens service, aims to revegetate and green the municipality in order to adorn and beautify its image, as well as mitigate the sensation of heat during the summer months.Specifically, in this action that has been developed in the Santa Eulalia neighborhood, about 250 hedra helix plants have been planted.
In total, it is estimated that an approximate area of ??between 25,000 and 30,000 square meters will be planted with ivy throughout the municipality, which will have 120,000 ivy. "We work every day to improve our green areas and maintain our municipal infrastructures with the aim of offering the best services to citizens and thus improving their quality of life", José Guillén stressed. It is a plant that adapts very well to all types of soils and climates, and in winter it is practically possible to eliminate watering.
In fact, during the colder months with lower temperatures, it is enough to water it once a week, while in the hot months and higher temperatures it is increased between 3 and 4 times to keep the plant properly hydrated. This plan will act in arid areas, depleted of vegetation for various reasons, which will become areas with carpets that grow very fast and require little watering once they settle.
In this way, the ivy not only occupies flowerbeds, but also settles on slopes, turning those spaces into green places with climbing plants. The Ivy Plan is already underway in different locations, both in districts and in the center.
Of the 60 actions initially planned, so far it has been carried out in the parterres of Calle Greco, Calle Navegante Juan Fernández, Paseo Joaquín Garrigues Walker, in the area of ??FREMM, Juan Carlos I, Malecón and Calle Sol de Puente Bacon, among others.
